Montgomery County Police today released details on arrests made during a special holiday shopping patrol on Tuesday night at Montgomery Mall.

Police say proactive enforcement that’s part of their “Shop with a Cop” program led to a traffic stop at around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the mall. Officers observed a vehicle being driven in the parking lot with a non-functioning headlight and non-functioning tag lamp.

Upon stopping driver Jonathan M. Logan, 21, of the 10700 block of Hollaway Drive in Upper Marlboro, and passenger Czaryna Mortley, 21, of the 3600 block of Spring Hollow Lane in Frederick, police say they observed the smell of marijuana.

Police searched the vehicle and say they located marijuana cigarettes, a baggie of cocaine and a pill determined to be a prescribed narcotic. Police say they also found a stolen credit card on Logan, who was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance — marijuana, theft of a credit card and receiving/retaining a stolen credit car card.

Mortley was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance — marijuana and two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance — not marijuana.

On Wednesday, while describing a recent burglary and robbery spike that’s hit the area, Bethesda Police District commander Capt. David Falcinelli used the Montgomery Mall arrest as an example of his officers’ increased patrol during the holiday season.

“Just last night, a black male and female were arrested outside of Montgomery Mall for drug offenses and both had significant criminal histories ranging from check/credit card fraud to robbery and possession of a handgun,” Falcinelli wrote.

Logan was arrested for having a handgun in his vehicle in 2011.

Imagine if they did that at Lakeforest Mall…. I bet MS13 would have probably fought off the police.
