Tunnel Vision: Arts Under The Avenue The Bethesda Urban Partnership is looking for artists to fill a new art studio in a downtown Bethesda office building.

Studio B (not to be confused with Gallery B) is now accepting artist applications.

The 1,200-square-foot facility in the Bethesda Crescent building (7475 Wisconsin Ave.) will have studio and exhibition space for three artists. BUP and the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District will operate the facility thanks to a deal worked out with Brookfield Office Properties, the building’s owner.

In exchange for approval to do a renovation of the building’s lobby, which included three commissioned pieces of art, Brookfield agreed to create the studio space for BUP and donate  $23,000 for lighting upgrades in the Bethesda Metro tunnel that includes BUP’s “Art Under the Avenue” exhibit.

The deal also includes a $3,500 contribution to sponsor “Art Under the Avenue” and free rent for the art studio for 10 years. BUP is charging $295, $405 and $475 rents for the three studios.

Artists who reside in Maryland, Washington, D.C. or Virginia are eligible to apply for the space. The studios will be available starting later this fall and feature 24-hour access, wireless internet and promotion from BUP.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 27. Visit BUP’s website for more information.
