Bethesda Area Boasts Highest Ratio of Single Women To Single Men In the Country
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, real estate website Trulia.com has determined which areas boast the highest ratios of single women and single men and Bethesda stands out.
The Bethesda-Rockville-Frederick metropolitan district (as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics) has the highest ratio of single women to single men in the country, according to the study, which estimates there are 1.2 single women living alone in the area for every single male.
To come up with the figures, author Jed Kolko first looked at the number of men and number of women not living in dorms, group quarters or other institutions together in large groups. He then subtracted Census estimates of the gay and lesbian population to focus on men and women interested in dating someone of the opposite sex. He also subtracted people older than 65.
East coast power centers are traditionally home to higher ratios of single women to single men.
Washington, DC-VA-MD-WV has the second highest ratio, with 1.12 women living alone per man living alone. Boston, New York, NY-NJ and Raleigh, NC round out the top five.
Kolko’s research shows three Bethesda zip codes with 10 percent to 25 percent more single women than single men. The zip code with the highest ratio of single women to single men in Washington was 20008, which covers upper NW along Connecticut Avenue.

Winemakers leave the red grape skin in contact with the wine for a short amount of time, usually 12-24 hours. Red wines are made with the skin being in contact with the wine for several weeks, but only leaving them in contact for a short period of time leaves the wine color a beautiful pink. This is the same process that produces rosé wines as well.
Rosé sparkling wines come in a variety of price ranges. You can find a domestic sparkling rosé for fewer than 10 dollars, but the quality will not be there and a headache will ensue. You can also purchase a high end rosé champagne that can cost well over 100 dollars, but after purchasing a gift, flowers and dinner, money might be a little tight for that. Here is a list of quality sparkling rosés that you do not have to break the bank for.
Gruet NV Rose New Mexico, U.S.A
When I first was introduced to Gruet sparkling wines, I was a bit skeptical about the grapes being from New Mexico. New Mexico isn’t exactly known for top quality wine growing, but once I tasted these sparkling wines, I was astonished by how well-made they were.
Using the same method as champagne, this rosé is under 20 dollars, and is an excellent value at the price point. Exhibiting a bright floral nose and hints of strawberry, raspberry and cherry, this sparkling rosé will be a perfect match for Valentine’s Day.
DoubleTree Bethesda Asks: Are You Sane Enough To Be Single?
The DoubleTree Bethesda (8120 Wisconsin Ave.) is hosting the rare Valentine’s Day event that doesn’t require a significant other.
On Feb. 14 at 7 p.m., the hotel will have “mix,taste and mingle” Single Appreciation Night Events (S.A.N.E.) in its Share Wine Lounge & Small Plate Bistro.
For $25, restaurant staff will show participants how to mix drinks and filet a fresh salmon dish before offering tastings and time to socialize.

Bethesda Store Offering Men’s Only Valentine’s Day Shopping
Upscale Bethesda Row furniture store Urban Country (7117 Arlington Rd.) is hoping to make things easier for last minute male shoppers this Valentine’s Day with a “Men’s Only Valentine Shopping Spree.”
The store will extend its hours on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for guys who may not have a clue as to what to get their significant others.
